A brief introduction

I’m Manish Melwani: Brand-focused copywriter. Published author of science fiction, fantasy and horror. And, by some strange alchemy of corporate law, also Starship & Syntax, LLC. 

Copywriting is like science fiction and fantasy. It involves research, imagination, and a keen ear for language.

Branding, thankfully, is pretty different from horror. (Although both benefit from a strong sense of voice and narrative.)

I continue to be amazed at how a few well-chosen, hard-won words can create stories; brands; even worlds. And I’d love to help you build some.

During my year as Square Roots’ brand voice lead, I crafted a distinctive voice, narrative, and tagline for this high-tech local farming company. 

Square Roots’ indoor farms aren’t sterile spaces where produce is grown by cold machines. They’re lush, vibrant environments where plants and the people who grow them can thrive—every day of the year.

Putting everywhere’s local farm on the map



As the copy lead of Square Roots’ in-house creative department, I wrote words that appeared in supermarket aisles, in sales videos and on social media, and on billboards in multiple states.  

In addition to working on the brand’s first-ever advertising campaign (which highlighted our thriving farms in the depths of winter), we also created messaging for shoppers, supermarket produce buyers, and anyone else who might come into contact with Square Roots.
